Awash Ethiopian Restaurant was founded by Fouad Wassel, a businessman with a vision of sharing the beauty of Ethiopian culture with South Florida, alongside his wife, Eka, whose passion and talent for traditional Ethiopian cooking became the heart of the restaurant. Together, they created Awash as more than a place to eat—it is a family-owned restaurant built around authentic food, culture, and Ethiopian hospitality.
Named after Ethiopia’s historic Awash River, the restaurant celebrates the country’s rich heritage through its traditional Gojo Bait-inspired design, authentic cuisine, Ethiopian coffee and tea, traditional drinks, art, music, and coffee ceremonies. Many of the dishes are prepared using recipes, spices, and cooking traditions that have been passed down through generations.
At Awash, family remains at the center of everything. On any given visit, you may meet Fouad, Eka, or another member of the family welcoming guests, helping around the restaurant, or simply sharing a conversation. That personal connection is part of what makes Awash special.
From the food served on injera to the aroma of freshly prepared Ethiopian coffee, Awash was created to give South Florida a genuine taste of Ethiopia and make every guest feel like they have been welcomed into the family.
